A Heart Like Mine
Tor Glenn
GENRE I test this broken wing amidst the scattered blue
With the ancient eye of memory blocking almost all my view
A voice of a million years finally dies in this city
The wheel can never be turned back now, the blood has returned to the stone
Why would anybody break a heart like mine?
Why would anybody even want to try?
I’ll bet there’s not a single reason why
Anyone would want to break a heart like mine
Imagine every child and their soul-lit diamond joy
Every captured castle and dragon slain, every harmless toy
The sweat of one hungry soul who pulled too hard on the trigger
Where every moment is lost my friend, and a hell has surely been found
Why would anybody break a heart like mine?
Why would anybody even want to try?
I’ll bet there’s not a single reason why
Anyone would want to break a heart like mine
I would trade all of my lifetimes
To be the breadth of the wind
As I stand at this line of defeat
The earth kissing the soles of my feet
I stand patiently waiting to meet…
…any sister or brother
So face to face they meet, the warrior and scribe
On the only field they’ll ever walk, they speak before the tribe
The hunters begin to leave, just a few remain now, if any
The truth is traded away again (it’s their only possession of worth)
Why would anybody break a heart like mine?
Why would anybody even want to try?
I’ll bet there’s not a single reason why
Anyone would want to break a heart like mine
With the ancient eye of memory blocking almost all my view
A voice of a million years finally dies in this city
The wheel can never be turned back now, the blood has returned to the stone
